IMASS: Itasca Constitutive Model for Advanced Strain Softening

Block cave mining simulated using FLAC3D and IMASS.

This webinar about IMASS was presented by Dr. Ehsan Ghazvinian, a geomechanics engineer with Itasca Consulting Group and an experienced IMASS practitioner.

The Itasca Constitutive Model for Advanced Strain Softening (IMASS) represents the rock mass response to excavation-induced stress changes.

IMASS uniquely utilizes two softening (or residual) yield envelopes to model the damage around an excavation, slope, or caving process. It represents the progressive failure and disintegration of the rock mass from intact, jointed, and/or veined rock to a disaggregated, bulked material.

IMASS is a constitutive model for use in both FLAC3D and 3DEC (versions 7.0 or later) and is sold as a separate option. Monthly or annual leases are available.
